Preferences

Open the preferences with Window ▸ Preferences…. Changes take effect at once, except where noted, and are kept for the next time you start Terrafold. The browser version doesn't keep preferences between visits.

The preferences have seven sections: General, Drawing, Language, Template, Graphics, Files and Shortcuts.

General

Drawing

The Line tool takes points by:

  • Either (detect clicks and drags), the default.
  • Click, drag and release: press at the start point and release at the end point.
  • Click, move and click: click the start point, then click the end point.

Continue drawing from the end of each line (on by default) starts the next line where the last one ended. A chain of lines always ends when it closes a face or when you press Escape.

Language

Choose System language, which follows your computer's language, or one of:

  • English
  • Nederlands (Dutch)
  • Français (French)

The interface changes language at once. Your model data, file names and messages from the modelling engine stay as they are. If your system language isn't one of these, Terrafold uses English. Some panels and messages are not translated yet.

Template

Where Terrafold keeps its files

Data folder

Terrafold keeps recovery files, templates and extensions in its data folder:

PlatformData folder
Linux, FreeBSD~/.local/share/terrafold (or $XDG_DATA_HOME/terrafold)
macOS~/Library/Application Support/Terrafold
Windows%LOCALAPPDATA%\Terrafold

It contains:

  • recovery: autosaved and crash recovery copies of unsaved models.
  • templates: your templates, unless you chose another folder in Preferences ▸ Files.
  • extensions: installed extensions (see Extensions).

To use another data folder, set the environment variable TERRAFOLD_DATA_DIR before starting Terrafold. Log files then go to its logs folder.

Preferences

Your preferences, shortcuts, trays and ribbon layout are stored by the application under the id be.appmire.terrafold, in your system's per-user application data location. On Linux that is usually ~/.local/share/be.appmire.terrafold.

Components library

The Local Library of the Components panel uses ~/Terrafold/Components by default.

Log files

Terrafold writes a log file, terrafold.log. The logs of the two previous runs are kept as terrafold.1.log and terrafold.2.log.

PlatformLog folder
Linux, FreeBSD~/.local/state/terrafold/logs (or $XDG_STATE_HOME/terrafold/logs)
macOS~/Library/Logs/Terrafold
Windows%LOCALAPPDATA%\Terrafold\logs

If you report a problem, include the log file and, if you can, a model that shows the problem.

Moving from an earlier version

If you used Terrafold before it got its current name, your data folder and preferences are moved to the new locations the first time you start the new version.
